My school is 50% free and reduced lunch, meaning half of my families are below the poverty line. I’m the Aztecs Softball Coach for that middle school. My girls, who are fantastic athletes, come to me with little to zero experience every year because their families do not have the means for extracurricular play. I have begun a softball club at my school which lets the girls play two hours a week from 3rd thru 8th grade. We do not, however, play any games because the girls can’t afford to get into the city leagues. $4400.00 will allow 10 girls who can’t afford it to play year-round for one year. Some of these girls could earn scholarships someday if only someone could help open the door for them. I believe in them so much that I volunteer 400 hours a year training them to be ready to play.
