Let Lexie Live

Please help my friend Sandi save her dog, Lexie. She is a loyal, gentle, and sweet dog and she means the whole world to her family. Sandi adopted Lexie ( an emotional support dog) from a Military Veteran who was no longer able to keep her due to his deteriorating health. The circumstances are so unfortunate and have taken a huge toll on their family. Their six-year-old German Shepherd, Lexie, injured a small dog about 14 days ago. Lexie was in prey mode and chasing squirrels when it bit a small dog and that dog required stitches. Sandi and her family are paying the emergency medical bills ( They went to Blue Pearl!) and the dog is recovering well. The problem is that this was reported to the City and Sandi was given a declaration because of this one bite. The owners of the small dog wrote a letter to the City stating that they did not want Lexi to be deemed a dangerous dog and that they understood that Lexi was just being a dog chasing a squirrel. They asked that the city would change their mind and let Lexi live. Lexie had never bitten anyone or an animal before. It is unfair that Lexi may lose her life and that the City, which knows nothing about Lexi and her past is sentencing Lexi to death if Sandi cannot get some help.
Among the initial expenses are :
-1,000 just to contest the declaration in the city ( Sandi’s family has already paid)
-1,000-2,000 for the Lawyer ( Sandi has already been talking to a lawyer)
-250.00 initial trainer evaluation ( Sandi did this on December 28)
These expenses are just the beginning as you can imagine there are be more expenses depending upon what the court decides: The requirements for a declared dangerous dog are:
-$750 annual dangerous dog license
-$1200 to $2500 ( estimate) dangerous dog insurance
-License fees every year $250.00
Sandi may lose in the hearing and the declaration will stand.
If the family loses, All the above requirements will be due in 14 days. There may be additional requirements as well
-additional Training: $1500. ( est)
-a required “proper enclosure “ if the home is not allowed to be the proper enclosure. Up to $3000.
Owners who can’t meet the expensive and difficult requirements in the time allotted have their dog seized and euthanized.
Having your dog declared dangerous is a death sentence unless you are able to meet the requirements in a short period of time, usually 2 weeks. Can you please help in any way? Anything you can contribute will help. Thank you .. update ! You all have been so caring and giving . It is making a difference! If you would please share this link on your page, texts or social media we can help get the word out and get Lexie the support she needs ! Thank you for all you are doing ! https://www.gofundme.com/f/let-lexie-live?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1
