Georgina is an intersex woman from Egypt who has been fleeing violence, abuse, and persecution for over 16 years. She now lives in exile, without legal protection, and is surviving thanks to the kindness of strangers. One operation could change everything.
With your help, Georgina can finally complete her gender-confirming surgery — a vital step toward legal recognition, safety, and freedom. The cost: € 2000 for the chest surgery, €6,000 for the full procedure.
Why This Operation Matters So Much
“Hello, I’m Georgina.
At birth, I was assigned male because the doctors didn’t know what to do with my intersex body. I’ve always known I was a girl — but I was forced into a life that never fit me. As a teenager in Egypt, I was abused by my father and his friends, conscripted into the military as a man, and punished for trying to be myself.
I escaped to Lebanon, then fled again during the bombings. I’ve lived in fear ever since. I’m now in Southeast Asia on a short tourist visa, waiting, always waiting, for UNHCR to relocate me. But time is running out.
There is one thing that could change everything: a gender-confirming operation.
If I can get this surgery, I’ll be able to legally change my gender and protect myself from being sent back to Egypt, where I would face prison, or worse. In the country where I’m staying now, it could allow me to apply for permanent residency. It’s not just about becoming who I am, it’s about staying alive.”
