The siege of Gaza continues. The ports and checkpoints are blockaded. Israel bombs their houses; businesses cannot operate. Relief agencies have had their funding cut; there are no jobs. Schools, usually Palestinians’ pride and joy, open rarely because of funding cuts and COVID-19.
But community leaders like Askar Samah continue to keep life going. With money from our campaign, she maintains her family and helps neighbors who need food, clothing, and heat. She also reports true stories with pictures of life in Gaza, a perspective we don’t get from corporate media.
There are many like Samah in Gaza, including her husband Ahmed. Israel’s siege cannot be total, because with activists like them on the ground, we can bypass the blockade on the Internet. We're not just enabling them to survive, but to live and hope for the future.
