Refugee Crisis in Lesvos, Greece

Donation protected
{UPDATE 4/9/16: Due to the changes brought upon Lesvos because of the EU-Turkey deal, we have rerouted out trip to the refugee camps in Athens and Idomeni, where the majority of refugees are currently located.}

Hey guys,  as you know, Lesvos is undeniably experiencing a humanitarian crisis.  As hundreds and thousands of refugees continue to arrive to the island , their needs far exceed the capacity of aid being giving by the NGOs already present there.  For this reason, a group of us students from NJ/CT/DC will be travelling to Lesvos, Greece on April 22nd,  2016 in order to offer our help in managing this crisis.

These refugees have been forced to flee their homes with not much more then the clothes on their backs.  These are men, women, and children, who have left behind their homes, jobs, possessions, and memories,  for the chance of a better life.  The refugees arrive on the island emtpy-handed and in a foreign land, many of them lacking the basic necessities of life such as water, food, clothing, housing, etc.

The purpose of this page is to raise enough money before our trip to provide them with just that.  All donations will be used towards the following:

-Food: The organizations provide meals for about 1200 people per day and it is usually not enough for everyone.  These meals usually lack protein.  With your donations we will sponsor meals and purchase meat to be incorporated into the meals.

-Clothing: There is a great need for socks, gloves, hats, scarfs, shirts, pants, jackets, etc. in ALL sizes. The refugess arrive on the island wet and need to be changed immediately.

-Blankets: A friend who just got back expressed a need for thermal blankets.  Since the winter has set in, hypothermia has cost a lot of lives due to the cold and wetness.

-Sanititation & Medical Supplies: In order to provided the immediate medical attention needed by the incoming refugees, we will purchase first-aid kits and consult with organizations to see what other supplies are needed most.

-Housing: tents, sleeping bags, pillows, etc.

All expenses and purchases will be documented, so you can rest assured knowing each dollar was used towards bettering the lives of those who need it the most right now.  Our airfare, housing, and food expenses will be covered out of our own pockets while your donations will be used 100% towards helping the refugees.  Upon arrival, we will be registering with Health Point Project Lesvos (Camp Moria).

Coming from families who left their countries in order to build a better life in a foreign land, we understand the struggles and hardships these people are facing.  Reaching the island is only part of the struggle that unfortunately not all have been able to overcome. We must help these people to cope and rebuild, and this can only be done with your help

Although we have set a goal amount, there is no limit to the amount of help these people need.  Any amount of donation is accepted and appreciated greatly.

Since GoFundMe takes a percentage of all donations, we accept (and prefer!) cash/check donations as well.  Please email me at [email redacted] for more information.

Thank You!
