COMMEMORATION OF 8 US ARMY SOLDIERS KILLED IN MONTEBUONO, ITALY

On April 13, 1944  eight American Servicemen were killed by German SS near the Church of San Benedetto in Montebuono, Province of Rieti, Italy.

To mark the 75th annyversary of their ultimate sacrifice a commemoration ceremony is being planned .

The ceremony will take place in Montebuono on Saturday April 13th 2019; it will be led by local priest and attended by local dignitaries. The United States Embassy in Rome has confirmed its participation and we also anticipate the involvement of senior representatives of Italian Armed Forces and NATO.

As part of the commemoration, two new plaques (one for the short poem and one for the names) will be unveiled.

Funds are needed to finance the cost of the plaques, which will be engraved in marble by a local artisan.
The expected cost is of 2,500 Euro (approximately 2,900 USD).

Please pass on this appeal to your friends so we can properly honor these Soldiers and assure that they will be remembered.

We would like to take a moment to express The Memorial Planning Committee's appreciation to everyone who has supported the "Lest We Forget Campaign". We never would have been able to succeed in this endeavor without your outstanding support.

You have given us and the Village of Monte Buono the opportunity to honor these Eight American Servicemen who were killed 75 years ago.

We mourn all who were killed during this tragic event known as World War II; men, women, children, all races, colors and religions.

We hope that someday, you will travel to Italy and perhaps come to Monte Buono, hike up the hill and spend time at The Memorial.

THANK YOU

THE MEMORIAL PLANNING COMMITTEE
