My cat, Ares, is large and friendly and unfortunately sick. He is an older kitty, 16 or so, and he has developed a cancer behind his left shoulder, where vaccines used to be given. It stayed small for years, but recently has gotten much bigger, and a cell aspiration and then biopsy has confirmed it's cancer. He needs surgery to get the tumor removed, and it's going to be a somewhat complicated surgery, because of his age. The veterinary surgeon thinks it's on the low side of moderate risk. See the attached shot for the size of the tumor.
Ares has been with me since he was 8 weeks old, in Oregon and California. He's very affectionate and has converted several people who didn't like cats, or thought cats didn't like them. Before he got sick, he used to sleep on my chest at night, and had the charming habit of sneezing in people's ears in the mornings to ease them into the day. The vet thinks he can survive this; even though the tumor will likely reoccur, it won't be this big, and he'll get more time to make more friends.
I'm angling for a surgery soon, and I deeply appreciate any help. Ares is a wonderful cat and I know he'd tank you all in person if he could.
