A Call for Help: Children in Lesotho Need Our Support
Hi, my name is Dylan Colburn, and I'm reaching out to you with a heavy heart. I'm currently in Lesotho, a small landlocked country in Southern Africa, where I've witnessed firsthand the heartbreaking realities that many children face here. During my stay, I visited a small village in Mafeteng, Ha Khoro, and what I saw moved me to tears.
The Struggle is Real
Most of the children in this village are barefoot, hungry, and struggling to survive with very little. Tragically, many of them are raised by their grandmothers, as their parents have either passed away or abandoned them. These children, who should be cared for and nurtured, are left to grow up without the protection and support that every child deserves.
Malnutrition: A Constant Threat
What's even more alarming is that many of these children are severely malnourished. They lack access to basic nutrients, which hinders their growth, weakens their immune systems, and affects their cognitive development. It's heartbreaking to see these young souls struggling to survive due to something as basic as food.
The Daily Struggle
Every day, they walk miles to school, often with no shoes to protect their feet, and no coats to shield them from the harsh weather. In the summer, the rains are heavy and relentless, and in winter, the snow makes their long walks even more unbearable. The thought of these young souls braving such conditions just to get an education is both humbling and heartbreaking.
The Impact of Poverty on Education
What's even more devastating is that many young girls can't even attend school during their menstrual cycle because they have no access to sanitary pads. Without these basic hygiene products, they miss school, fall behind, and often drop out altogether. The most basic school supplies like books, pens, and even a simple backpack are out of their reach. Instead, they carry their things in plastic shopping bags, doing their best to make do with whatever they have.
We Can Make a Difference
This is where we come in. We have the chance to make a real difference in their lives. Our goal is to raise $3,000 to provide these children with the basic necessities they so desperately need. Here's how your contribution will help:
Allocation of Funds
- School Supplies (30% - $900): We will provide essential school supplies like books, pens, pencils, notebooks, and backpacks to ensure these children have the tools they need to succeed in school.
- Groceries (40% - $1,200): We will purchase groceries to provide these children with nutritious food, helping to combat malnutrition and ensure they have the energy to focus on their education.
- Hygiene Essentials (20% - $600): We will provide hygiene essentials like sanitary pads, soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste to promote good health and hygiene practices.
- Clothing and Footwear (10% - $300): We will purchase shoes, raincoats, and warm clothing to protect these children from the harsh weather conditions.
