Hello,

My name is Leslie Wilson. Me and my family are currently homeless.

in 2024, we fell on hard times. I lost my job and with my parents both being on disability…..when it came time to pay the property taxes……we knew that we couldn’t afford to pay them.

so my mom began to seek resources to help…she had several options….but choose to sell the home to a family member. She thought it would honor her mom and dad but long story short…my mom ended up going to court twice and We ended up being kicked out knowing we had no where else to go.

We have lived many places and have never been evicted! So, to be evicted by a family member hurts even more. They weren’t willing to work with us on paying rent or working something out until we had somewhere else to go.

My mother is 77 and has cerebral palsy. Her being out of her home has caused her to get use to a new environment and about 4 weeks ago…..she fell going to the bathroom and broke her hip. She was in rehab for 2 weeks and they discharged her a few days ago.

she has been struggling with healing due to the mental and emotional strain she’s faced along with the daily anxieties of having a room to stay in.

My mom requires breathing treatments and medication in order to aid in her everyday living.

she is on social security and only get paid once a month. We are unable to afford housing or apartments outside of public assistance.

I have been unemployed for about a year, struggling to find work due to transportation and the job market despite my numerous years of experience. I feel helpless in this situation and it’s caused me so much stress and anxiety. I don’t qualify for food stamps or any other resources in my state.

Being homeless for the first time is the most devastating experience I've ever had to endure, especially with a mom that desperately needs a place to live for medical reasons.

We have no other family members that have offered to take us in for a night, offer us a couch to stay on, or anything. We feel alone and isolated in this situation.

We have reached out to the housing authority and other resources but have yet to hear anything back from them and we are soon approaching a time where we can no longer afford to stay in a motel.

Being in this situation is not cheap so anything helps. Funds will be used for a room, food, and toiletries
