Leslie Schirle - Kidney Transplant 2022

Leslie Schirle, one of the South Bay’s premiere caterers, was suddenly hospitalized due to polycystic kidney disease in 2021 and told she would need a kidney transplant. A direct donor is best versus waiting 6-8 years on the transplant ‘list.’ With the love and good fortune from Les’ dear friend Nina Cupples, Les will be able to have her much-needed kidney transplant, scheduled for May 4, 2022.

Les is currently on life-sustaining dialysis 3x a week. She’s doing all she can to remain healthy. Although her generosity and hospitality are legend, she tires more easily now. Make no mistake, catering is HARD, physically demanding work. Les is trying to save up for the two months she will not be able to work. She has not stopped working.

Ten months from the time Les was told she needed a transplant, Nina was approved as her donor. There is a long list of pre-transplant testing while she waits. There is insurance but patients incur a long list of expenses associated with transplant surgery and recovery.
