When I was a small child, I was diagnosed with Alport Syndrome. This has caused some hearing loss and vision loss, but the hardest symptom to deal with has been kidney disease. I made it quite some time, but I now have stage 4 kidney disease, and I am in need of a transplant. Despite insurance, the costs of a transplant are quite high. My husband and I have insurance, and we work hard, but medications alone will cost several thousand dollars in the first 6 months after insurance picks up their share of the costs. My own income will be decreased as I will not be able to work for a few months, and my husband and I have a growing 13 year old son.
The transplant process takes several months as living donors will need to be screened for compatibility, and several major tests will need to be completed on me as well. Any help you can offer is appreciated more than you can possibly imagine as my family and I face our coming challenges.
