Hi, I am posting this for a very dear friend.

Last Sunday, Nov 6 Leslie and her 12yr old son, Kirk, were involved in a car accident. Leslie, while making a left turn was hit on the front passenger side of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to spin and then slide down into a concrete drainage ditch. Thankfully, there were some amazing citizens who helped pull her and her son out of the car. Leslie suffered some minor lacerations to her face, and aside from the shock and emotional toll of the car accident, she is doing well.

Her son, who thankfully was seated in the back seat behind her, suffered a much larger injury. They were transported via ambulance to MCA in Arlington. X-rays revealed a C1 Avulsion fracture in his neck. Doctors at MCA determined he needed to see a pediatric Neurosurgeon for an MRI and definite diagnosis. He was then transported to Cooks Hospital in Fort Worth. On Monday morning Kirk had the MRI, which confirmed the C1 Avulsion fracture. The good thing is there seems to be no significant structural damage to the ligaments, tendons, or soft tissue. However, he was given a "halo ring" vest and will be in that for a minimum of 3-4 months to allow the bone to heal on it's own.

Given the circumstances of this accident, and the potential of what could have happened, God was definitely watching over them and we are all so incredibly thankful they are okay. We now pray for a smooth and speedy, yet healthy recovery for Kirk, as well as the ease and comfort for Leslie. If you know her, her son is her world. She will fight and work her tail off to provide for him. The same goes for her friendships. Her loyalty is unmatched, and she would give the shirt off her back to anyone that may need it. I hope that by sharing this story, we can all do the same for her during this time.

Leslie started with the Post Office just 7 months ago and may not qualify for programs such as FMLA. She has tremendous support and help from her family and friends, but the beginning of this process, while Kirk is getting used to the halo-ring vest will involve day and night attention from his mom. Which we all know will require multiple days, if not weeks, at a time off of work. If you can possibly find it in you to donate to their cause and give this great family some help, they will be sincerely and forever grateful.
