Leslie De Bique Needs Our Help

Dear Friends,

Please help stop the foreclosure of the family home of our dear friend, Leslie De Bique! It has been a house of love and a sanctuary for over 60 years. But if the banks have their way, the house will be sold right now if overdue mortgage payments are not made immediately, and Leslie will be out on the streets. Leslie offered $10,000 of available cash; the bank demands $50,000.

The house first belonged to Leslie’s father, a self-employed businessman and member of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, Oakland. Upon his tragic death, title passed to his wife Willie De Bique. Raising Leslie to be a good person and with the Church a central part of her life, the Oakland home was filled with the sound of music and open to all. With the house long paid off, Mrs. De Bique retired from the school district and stayed active with good works, her garden, and beautiful flowers. But when Mrs. De Bique developed Alzheimer’s disease, Leslie left the corporate world to care for her mom. Years of around the clock caregiving were a daughter’s gift that allowed a senior to remain in her home throughout her old age.

Before Leslie's mother passed on, the two made the bold move to refinance the homestead, bringing the building up to current earthquake code and housing standards. Due to ups and downs in Leslie's work life over the last few years -- she was most recently laid off as a result of Covid-19 -- she has had difficulty making payments on her house. While trying to secure steady employment and a steady paycheck, she has gone into default. Now that permanent, full-time employment has been offered, the recorded default amount is set and the foreclosure process is underway. An influx of cash, $20,000 to meet bank demands, seems to be her only hope.

Leslie has been in constant turmoil over years with Wells Fargo Bank and the servicers of the loan. All her efforts to date to secure a mortgage modification for her mother’s house have failed. Bank tactics and delays caused her to lose a $100,000 grant from Keep Your Home California – a program that is now closed to her. Valid loan applications and their supporting documents somehow disappeared from Leslie’s file at the bank.

If you are able, please join in helping to save Leslie's house. A monetary contribution of any amount will be GREATLY appreciated. Unfortunately, time is of the essence. The bank has given her a reprieve of this week to procure the funds.

Regardless of whether or not you are able to make a financial contribution, please remember Leslie in your prayers.

Thank you for your support.
