Carol Liebrich

Our friend and co-worker Carol Liebrich is a divorced single mother of two children, Matt and Amanda, who are 19 and 23. Carol helps support both of her kids, one of whom who is currently enrolled in college, and provides healthcare coverage. In her free time, Carol enjoys spending time with her children and watching all of her favorite Seattle sports teams. Carol never misses a Blue Friday and is always up to date on how the Mariners are doing regardless of how well they are playing.
On Monday, September 21st, Carol tripped in her kitchen over shoe. Unbeknownst to her, Carol fractured her hip. Carol’s daughter, Amanda, wasn’t going to be home until late Tuesday night, so she waited a full day to be taken to the emergency room. The following day, she had surgery to have three pins put into place. Carol’s doctors also discovered that she had low bone density, which is why her hip injury occurred so easily.
The doctors are adamant that Carol stay immobile for at least four weeks and must have six weeks of physical therapy afterwards. She will likely have to continue physical therapy for months after her accident. Carol also has Type 1 Diabetes, which means her recovery process will be much longer than average.
After a minimum of ten weeks of rest and rehabilitation, Carol will return to part-time light duty at Leschi Market, where she has worked since 2009. Carol’s job as a Grocery Clerk and Cashier requires her to pick up and carry boxes up to sixty pounds, bend down, squat, and stand on her feet for sometimes up to 10 hours a day. Because of Carol’s loyalty to Leschi Market, they have graciously offered to save her job until she can return. Unfortunately, Carol will have to take a medical leave of absence, and so she will not have any form of income while she is recovering. It will be many months before Carol can return to full time duty.
