Les Puces cat rescue.
Donation protected
My name is Tracy, whilst in France, we foster kittens for Les Puces.
This is an amazing charity that cares for and finds homes, for as many of Frances abandoned feral cats and kittens as possible.
Sadly France has so many unwanted cats and kittens, many end up being rounded up en masse. They are then killed within a week if they are not able to be re homed, or their owners don't collect them.
This charity tries to prevent as many furry felines from this horrible fate as possible.
It has a network of foster parents, like myself. We volunteer to take in these terrified, injured, sick and feral kittens.
Les puces pays for all medical fees for operations, medication and ongoing medical treatment. It is our job then to nurse the cats back to health, and help them trust humans again. Once socialised and healthy Les Puces then finds loving homes for these kitties to live as much loved pets.
I am continuing to help this charity whilst I’m in England I will be donating 10% of any future sales from my shop to this charity. As well as setting up this go fund me page.
Our story so far…..
We came to France two years ago with our two shitzoos. We are dog people, always have been. However within weeks of arriving in France we began feeding many of the abandoned, and feral cats in our workshop and surrounding area. We realised these tiny little fur balls are not always treated kindly, almost like vermin by some.
Our dogs, who had previously shown a complete desire to rip apart any cat they saw. However besieged with this vast number of felines, they began to gently seek out these feral, starving fur balls, and visa versa.
The speed in which these tiny terrors went from hiding, hissing and spitting, to greeting, playing and purring was miraculous. All it took was a bit of food, time and patience. Our dogs fell in love with cats, so did we! We decided to begin fostering kittens.
Our first foster kitty Enzo, was semi feral, found dumped on the roadside in the pouring rain just as his eyes started to open. He arrived completely feral. I honestly thought this tiny terror would rip my eyes out rather than sit with me! Within 11 days he was a loving, dog friendly kitten, who loved nothing more than hunting dog tails, chasing flies and sleeping on my husband’s lap. He was re homed with our friends, happily so.
Our next foster kitty had lost his front leg in a car accident, the day before we received him. Zippy had managed to crawl into an old people’s home, where Les Puces rescued him and paid for his operation. He slept for two days after we took him in. He woke up and soon became our dog’s best friend and playmate. He lived up to his name, fast, brave and confident. He’s been happily re homed with the vets assistant who operated on him.
Our last foster kitty, tiny Timmy was saved from the kill pen. He spent the first two days completely shut down, refusing to even look at me. So I spent a few hours sitting next to his box, telling him about my day. Therapy for us both, or torture for him… and he clearly needed to shut me up. By the next day he’s on my knee making biscuits, purring so loudly he drowned out my waffling. He found his forever home at the last Les Puces adoption day, with a lovely family who already had two cat friends for him to join.
I realise we have many unwanted cats here in the UK. However nothing compares you to the scale of abandoned cats in France. All animals deserve the chance to live.
As I looked at tiny Timmy curled up in my arms, his eyes looking lovingly into mine, pawing happily away, I felt so sad. I knew had Les Puces not rescued him when they did, just one day later, this baby kitten with so much love to give, would be dead.
Les puces is a worthy charity for your money, one I plan on helping in anyway I can, for as long as I can. This money will help pay for more operations, pay for the sterilisation of cats, after care and help them rescue more cats.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
