Leo's Dawg Fight
Saturday morning, Pam took Leo, her 16-year-old son to the urgent care for a cough that did not seem to be getting better. After a chest x-ray which showed a 14 cm mass in the chest, he was sent over to the ER. Once there they did several tests and decided to send him to Children's Mercy via ambulance. He has been there since Sunday in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. He has been diagnosed with a Germ Cell Tumor that is pushing on his heart and his esophagus which makes it hard for him to breathe and get oxygen when he's sleeping. Tomorrow they will do a bone scan and see if the cancer has spread to the bones.
For now the plan is to have 4 rounds of chemotherapy that last 21 days each. He will be doing treatments at least into April. There will be many trips to KC and hospital stays during this time. If you feel it in your heart to help Pam during this difficult time, you can donate on this site, or you can Venmo directly to her. Her Venmo is @Pam-Wehrli.
We have set up a Caring Bridge page also to keep everyone informed on Leo's progress.
