Leonora's Breast Cancer and IVF Journey

Dear Family and Friends,
On May 19, 2021, my wife Leonora was diagnosed with Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (breast cancer). The diagnosis was a complete shock due to my wife’s age, 36 and with no family history. On June 18, 2021, Leonora had a left breast lumpectomy with lymph node biopsies.
Up until this point, Leonora and I were trying to start a family. She and I have been longing to become parents for quite some time. The unexpected cancer diagnosis posed a challenge to our family planning due to the fertility risks associated with her upcoming cancer treatments (radiation and chemotherapy).
Our fertility doctor strongly advised us to start fertility preservation/IVF immediately. My wife and I are now faced with the financially daunting costs of IVF treatments. Unfortunately health insurance does not cover all costs of IVF and must be paid upfront.
Since receiving the diagnosis, Leonora is currently on medical leave and is not working. Fortunately we qualify for a grant that partially assists with costs and is limited to medications. We are solely responsible for the remaining amount.

Embryo Cryo-Upfront Rate (with grant) $10,893.75
Embryo genetic testing (only for the first 3 embryos) $4,000- minimum
Hospital fee $1,005.84
Lauprolide medication (not covered by grant) $559
Getting to know Leonora:
Leonora is 36 years old from South Ozone Park, Queens raised by her parents from the Philippines. The youngest of three siblings, Leonora is a Registered Nurse that was working in the Emergency Department in Manhattan. During the pandemic last year, she was on the frontlines fighting against COVID. She has kept strong during the pandemic and still is during this life changing diagnosis.
We are currently under time constraints as the embryo freezing must occur prior to radiation and chemotherapy. I am reaching out in hopes that you will consider donating so that our focus will not be solely on the financial impact but towards her health, recovery and family planning. We hope to make this dream of parenthood a reality and any contributions will be forever appreciated. We are determined to defeat this cancer.
