Dear Friends of the Albertine Sisters,
Re: Request for donations for a new range for the Albertine Home
We are volunteers and friends of the Albertine Sisters in the Diocese of Gary. The Sisters have been serving with joy for 40 plus years in an assisted living facility for retired religious and lay people (the Albertine Home) in Hammond.
Now, we find that they have a desperate need for a new commercial range. The existing range (from 1994) is beyond repair as the parts have been discontinued. The heavy oven doors no longer have proper insulating gaskets, allowing excessive hot air to escape into the kitchen. This creates a miserable environment for the Sisters to work in, not to mention the energy inefficiency and waste involved.
Further, the oven springs and hinges, which control the opening and closing of the doors, are broken and irreplaceable. Every time food is put in and taken out, a second person must hold the door for safety and protection. The range is the workhorse of the kitchen, since it provides three meals daily for fifty plus people, some of whom are disabled, and some of them have devoted their entire lives to God.
After noticing this serious situation, we volunteers and friends of the Albertine Sisters have done much research on repair and replacement parts. To that end, we have sought out four quotes from equipment vendors to replace the existing range with the exact current model, maintaining the simplicity of the kitchen. This is what we found:
* The replacement cost for this range would be $13,516.00.
* An additional cost of removing the existing range and installing a new one with related gas piping and electric hookup would be approximately $2,000.00.
* The total cost need would be $15,516.00.
This need is great and so we humbly ask for donations.
May God bless you in every way for considering our request!
