Our dear friend, Leona, is currently undergoing treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

This journey began in May 2025, when she had been having shortness of breath, fever, nausea and fatigue. On May 28, she went to the hospital and, sadly, after bloodwork, she was diagnosed with Leukemia. Leona was quickly flown by Air BC from Fairmont to Vancouver on Friday May 30 for specialized Leukemia treatment.

After an intense first phase of treatment in the hospital, Leona is now an outpatient; however, still faces several more months of chemotherapy in Vancouver while she awaits a stem cell transplant. Leona must continue rounds of chemotherapy to keep her strong and stable while awaiting this stem cell donor match. Leona and Doug have secured a small basement suite close to the hospital to make the daily treatments more manageable, but as anyone familiar with Vancouver knows, the cost of accommodations can be overwhelming—especially over an extended period. They are expected to be in the city for several more months.

So many of you have reached out with love, support, and a desire to help. For that, they are so very grateful! Another meaningful way to support Leona, Doug and their family right now is by helping ease the financial pressure of living in Vancouver during this phase of treatment. We’ve set up this fundraiser to help cover the cost of accommodations, allowing Leona to focus on healing while her family focuses on being by her side.
