Jay was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Christina Smith, with whom he shared a deeply cherished bond. Their partnership was built on mutual respect and unwavering support, and Christina was always at the forefront of his mind. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their children: Karisha, Jaushua (Courtney), and Kershtin (Papa), who brought them the joy of grandchildren: Michael, Sean, Lily, and Thomas. Jay's devotion to his family was unwavering, and he instilled in them the values of loyalty, courage, and generosity.
Jay's formative years were spent in the heartland of America, where he developed a strong work ethic and an unwavering sense of duty. His academic journey led him to Arizona State University, where he furthered his education and prepared for a life of service. He answered the call of duty by enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served with distinction as a Lance Corporal in the Fifth Battalion, Tenth Marine Regiment, Second Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force. His time in the Corps honed his leadership skills and fostered a sense of camaraderie that would define his career and personal life. The discipline and camaraderie he experienced in the military stayed with him throughout his life, influencing his work ethic and values.
After serving in the military, Jay applied his leadership skills to various roles, including working in the oil fields of California. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become an owner-operator of a trucking company, a venture that showcased his independence and business acumen. Continuing his life of service, Jay also dedicated time as a Yavapai County Deputy, where he protected and served his community with integrity.
Jay's passion for helping others shined brightest in his role with wildland fire A.D. Logistics. His unwavering dedication to his wildland fire team family was evident in his tireless efforts to ensure their safety and meet their needs. Jay's colleagues will remember him not just as a leader, but as a brother who put the well-being of his team above all else.
Jay relished every opportunity to fish, go 4-wheeling, and explore nature's wonders. His infectious enthusiasm for outdoor activities brought friends and family together, creating memories that they will cherish forever.
