Canalino’s beloved Maestra Ybarra gave birth to a handsome baby boy on August 6, 2019. Leo Andrés Ybarra was welcomed by his loving mom and dad, Gabi and Junior, as well as a very loving and supportive extended family.
For seven months Leo and his family showed great strength, bravery, and grace as he faced undiagnosable health issues. He spent much of his life in hospitals and dependent on medical devices. During that time Leo, Gabi, and Junior loved to read together. As a teacher Gabi showered Leo with books and time reading in her arms- his favorite place to be.
Ultimately, Leo passed away on March 13, 2020. As his Canalino family grieves alongside Gabi, Junior, and all who knew Leo Andrés, we plan to create a cozy reading space in our school library including a comfortable child-sized armchair and bins stocked with books from Leo’s own collection and more, commemorated with a plaque to honor his amazing spirit that lives on in those whom he loved and touched.
