LEO THE GREAT - a lifesaving fund

Hi, my name is Marigo Mihalos Sfaelos... and I was recently connected with Leo The Great through family friends. I watched one of Leonidas' dreams come true over an iphone screen and felt the power of what ONE ENORMOUS gesture (thanks to Basketball Star Giannis Antetokounmpo) can do. I definitely have zero basketball skills, but I do believe in the immense value of reaching out to my network to assist me in my pursuit to raise money to help keep this special boy alive. There is no greater meaning to life than being able to give back. I believe in being the hand that lifts others up... we all can and should be the blessing that others need. As a new mom, I have learned how important help is and that we can all do our part, whatever that looks like. Leonidas and his family DEFINITELY need all of our help right now.

Leo is a 8 year old from Athens, Greece that woke up one day at age 4 and suddenly couldn’t move. He was diagnosed with a very rare disease called Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM). AFM is an illness with life threatening long term impacts. It is a serious condition that affects the nervous system, specifically the spine, which can cause limb weakness and poor muscle response. It all happened from a simple cold... and his life changed forever.

Leonidas was admitted into the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore for impatient care in November 2019 and has been visiting multiple times a week ever since for essential outpatient care. He needs a ventilator & other various medical devices just to survive each day. This disease has made Leo unable to move at all and only able to see and speak.

YET NONE OF THIS has ever gotten him down, his positivity and curiosity for the world always keep him full of life, love and hope. He is a winning chess player and YES is a HUGE Milwaukee Bucks fan thanks to the Greek Freak!

Leo and his family need our help with vast expenses for his treatments and life support. Some specific items include:

• Bills for Leo’s Sept 2023 spinal surgery - which was a $200,000 procedure

• Future procedures for spinal implant adjustments, specialized wheelchair adjustments and ventilator maintenance

• Dedicated daily nursing care, physical and occupational therapy, and essential medical supplies

• Getting an eye/voice controlled computer to allow him access to the world of knowledge

• Transportation operating expenses for the wheelchair van needed for continuing outpatient visits.
