Hello, we are Kerry and Matt, and I’m writing this as a parent asking for help for our beautiful, brave son, Leo.
Leo is just 10 years old and was diagnosed with Alopecia in December 2022. What began as patches of hair loss quickly turned into something much bigger — a journey no child should ever have to face.
Alopecia is often misunderstood as “just hair loss,” but for Leo, the impact has been so much deeper. He has endured verbal attacks and bullying at school because he looks different, experiences no child should have to carry. As a result, Leo has become increasingly anxious and withdrawn. Something as simple as wearing a hat or helmet has become incredibly distressing for him, as he associates it with his hair falling out and the fear and upset that came with it.
Despite everything, Leo continues to show strength every single day. He is funny, kind, and incredibly resilient — but as parents, it is heartbreaking to watch your child lose confidence and struggle emotionally through something completely beyond their control.
After being referred by Colchester General Hospital, we had hoped for specialist support through the National Hair Clinic at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. Unfortunately, Leo’s NHS referral was declined. We have since been told they may still be able to see him privately — but the costs are overwhelming for our family. Just an initial consultation with a specialist doctor is expected to cost around £350–£400, before any further appointments, investigations, or treatment plans.
We are reaching out because we simply cannot manage these costs alone, but we desperately want to give Leo every opportunity to access the specialist care and support he deserves.
Our hope is not only to seek answers and treatment options, but to help Leo rebuild confidence, feel supported, and know that he is never alone in this journey.
Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward Leo’s specialist appointments and medical care. And if you are unable to donate, simply sharing Leo’s story would mean the world to us.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us give our son hope.
With love and gratitude,
Leo’s Family, Kerry & Matt x
