Leo dog gets his eyes back!
Last week while on big island we noticed Leo’s eyes squinting a lot more and getting red and irritated.
We took him to the first vet and they gave him eye drops.
A few days later while still on big island he started running into walls, doors, chairs, people and not looking directly at us as he usually did. He had trouble finding his toy when playing fetch and would miss steps and curbs.
We took him to to the vet again and they said it may be a bacterial infection and they prescribed him an antibiotic and steroid.
After 4 days of using that medicine and seeing no improvement his balance, vision and coordination was completely gone. He is blind.
Third vet visit was today (8/13/18)
Doctor said he’s not responding to light, she sees lots of blood vessels dialated and red in his pupil and surrounding tissues. She ruled out glaucoma and has just started his blood tests. The test results will show if it’s a fungal infection, a heart problem, a dietary problem or what else it could possibly be.
Theres ONE opthamologist on all of the Hawaiian islands and she is very qualified to diagnose and treat Leo’s condition. However, she’s not on island till 8/17 and is needing extra money to see him as an emergency client as opposed to a routine visit (which first available appointment for that isn’t till 11/1/18)
I am working to get him seen with her as soon as possible to figure out what’s wrong with his eyes and get it fixed.
So far they’ve ruled out Glaucoma, cataracts and abrasions.
Please help with whatever amount you’re comfortable with. Any little bit helps. I want to run all the tests and do whatever it takes to get Leo’s Eyes back. Mahalo and Namaste.
