Leny and her baby are at risk. Leny is the wife of my dear friend Nyoman from rural Bali. I met Nyoman earlier this year while travelling and became close with their beautiful family. I've visited their village, shared meals with them and stayed in touch ever since. Now they need urgent help.

Leny is due to give birth any day now- but doctors have confirmed she cannot deliver naturally. She urgently needs a C-section to survive, but where they live, surgery isn't free and there is no public healthcare safety net. The hospital is their only safe option and they need to pay upfront. Without it, Leny and the baby are in danger. The surgery will cost 22,000,000IDR ($2,000AUD).

Nyoman and Leny live in a quiet village far from the tourist hotspots. Work is scarce. Nyoman is the sole provider for 6 family members- his wife, 2 kids, elderly grandmother, and widowed mother (his father passed from cancer a few years ago). Despite their limited means, they always share what little food and supplies they have with their community.

I’ve already reached out to local charities and clinics, but the hospital is the only real option left. I’ve also been trying to help Nyoman get more work as a driver and guide by running a social media page for him, but there just aren’t enough tourists coming through his region right now.

I trust this family completely. They are kind, humble and loving people. I’m heading back to Bali in 4 weeks and will be visiting them in person to help with supplies and check in on Leny and the baby. I get regular updates, and to be honest, I’m scared for them.
