My friend Lenore is a 62 yr old Canadian woman who moved to Mexico 18 months ago with her sister and her adult niece. They were full of hope for a new life, and have started a small business baking bagels which is starting to flourish.
Last Saturday, Lenore collapsed from a heart attack while making bagels. Tests determined that she urgently needs a pacemaker. Unfortunately Lenore does not have medical insurance, and is having to pay for all medical costs upfront. She is not well enough to return home for treatment. Lenore’s family and friends raised $10,000 for her initial care and testing, and the pacemaker will require another $18,000.
Lenore is the kindest and most fiercely compassionate person I know. From the moment I met her at a school bus stop in Fort McMurray in 1976, she made me feel welcome and valued. It was no surprise that she dedicated her life and career to supporting, caring for, and advocating for persons with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, youth, seniors, indigenous people, women fleeing domestic violence, and survivors of sexual assault. She has improved countless people's lives, and now needs our urgent help.
Any donation, no matter how small, will help and is deeply appreciated.
