Hello Folks!
I hope that you are all doing as
well as possible given these
uniquely times
I never thought that I would have to do one of these again. But hereI am.
And it is largely due to these very crazy times that I am doing
another Go Fund Me.
Before I tell you what the money earmarked for, let me review
what my situation is currently.
Bear with me because it is
complicated
For the last nine months I had
been living in a house with good
friends paying them below
market rent. It was a good
arrangement, as they needed the financial help and I needed a
room . But an extended family
member of theirs from out of
state was having similar
difficulties and she also needed a place in these pandemic times. I
am in my 60’s, but she is in her
70’. So I left there two weeks ago.
I am currently in a Bed and Breakfast in Santa Clarita which is incredibly low cost for its comfort
level, but is obviously more
expensive than a rental room
would be. And it is eating up my
stimulus check at a very rapid
rate.
In addition to my Social Security and my diminishing cushion from the Covid stimulus check,
I have a probable job with the
Census Bureau that could be
starting within a month. And I
have applied, like so many others, for a Covid contact tracer
position which would pay better and be more up my alley.
The Census job is far more likely, but there is a complication that
could delay it. There is a rule that I would have to enumerate in the neighborhood that I lived in when I applied. I could use the Bed and Breakfast address or any room
I am fortunate to enough to
secure. But that will cause a delay in my start date. It would be
extremely risky and foolhardy to
lie about where I was living in a
US government job.
Securing a room is extremely
difficult in the Covid era. My best bets were with friends, but
almost everyone had a
complication directly or
indirectly touching upon their
own family members displaced
by the pandemic.
Needless to say, homelessness is always untenable. But during a
pandemic, it is utterly
unthinkable.
Food is covered with my SNAP
benefits ( used to be known as
food stamps) for half of the
month. And the food bank and whatever savings I have for the
other half.
Any money raised here will be
earmarked toward
1. Maintaining a roof over my
head until a private room can be
found
2. Money for deposit or first and
last in a new room
3. A fee of no more than $100 for an on line course called Coursera which is necessary for the
contact tracer job
I realize that the Pandemic has
caused financial difficulties for
many of you. But it was not until I had no guaranteed address that I realized how extreme and
traumatic the changes to our
society have become.
Whatever help you can give, however modest, will be appreciated.
This Pandemic WILL eventually
end. And happiness, tranquility,
and prosperity will be with us
again!
Love and Wisdom
Lenny
