My name is LeNia Goff and I am currently in my first semester at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. I am pursuing my doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy.

I will be traveling to the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission (NWHCM) in St. Louis du Nord, Haiti. I will depart for Haiti on January 1st, 2016 and return to the US on January 10th, 2016.

This will be my third mission trip to the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. My experiences in Haiti have changed my life, and ultimately led to my decision to become an Occupational Therapist. I've formed lasting bonds and relationships with the people of the St. Louis community, especially with the young women in the orphanage and the children in the special needs center.

One young girl, in particular, had a profound impact on me. Her name is Gildine Joseph and she has cerebral palsy. Before I thought occupational therapy was in the cards for me, I was able to assist her in therapy one on one. I have never felt such joy helping someone before. Though not able to speak, her laugh alone told me that OT was what I wanted to do.  This is one of many joyous experiences I've had while serving at the NWHCM and I pray that I will have many more in my lifetime.

Like my previous mission trips, this 2016 New Year's trip will be fully funded by the generous donations from family and friends. My goal is to raise $2000 by December 1st.  This amount will cover airfare, food, lodging, and anti-malarial medication.
