Lending a helping hand to Tom Muselman

Donation protected
Tom Muselman has touched the lives of so many people in his amazing journey in life. If you ever played hockey at Metro Ice Arena or watched Buccaneer Hockey in Des Moines, Tom was a part of making that happen. If you have been impacted by lung conditions that now have a treatment or taken part in smoking cession/clean air programs, Tom was a board member and Team 27 has raised over $245,000 for the American Lung Association. If you have had the pleasure of knowing Tom personally, you know he  is the most welcoming, personable, and humble guy in the room. He welcomes anybody in with the warmest hug or handshake. Tom would give you the shirt off his back and pour you stiff drink at the same time, expecting absolutely nothing in return. Beyond being a great friend, he is also a loving and caring husband, father, father-in-law, and papa.
Tom is a double-lung transplant recipient. At the end of November 2020 Tom was not feeling well. This started a health spiral for him with lots of ups and downs along the way. He went to the University of Iowa Hospital to be checked out by his Pulmonary Team, that has been with him his entire health journey. He was admitted to the hospital immediately and things started going downhill fast. He ended up developing blood clots due to a lung infection that eventually caused a series of stokes. Tom along with the family agreed he would undergo aggressive rehabilitation to try to get any and all function back as much as possible. He went to a couple of different rehab facilities both out of state and in state for treatment. He was finally able to come home to rehab in home and he took a fall on the 5th day he was home and hit his head. Out of an abundance of caution, he was taken to the ER to be evaluated. He did not sustain any further damage to his brain, but he did test positive for Covid. He was brought Iowa City to be treated by the Covid experts and his Pulmonary care team. Luckily, it was caught before he was showing any signs or symptoms and he was able to recover. Due to that set back, he is back in a rehab facility to get stronger from his weakened state and will hopefully be able to return home for in home rehab again soon. It is unknown if his lungs have sustained any permanent damage, at this point, but we do know that Tom is, and always will be, the hardest working guy in the room. He will continue to push far beyond anyone's expectations to be able to enjoy life with those around him once again.
The family has had so many people reach out and ask how they can help.  Prayers and positive thoughts are welcome by all and are appreciated more than you will ever know. If you feel you would like to help Tom and the family in physical way, please consider donating. The money would help in curbing the mounting medical bills, previous travel costs, daily living expenses, and modifications needed in the house. This has been a very stressful and emotional journey for Tom and all those who know and love him. Donating would give relief in a way that would take the stress off the expenses, so the family can put all their attention in getting Tom everything he needs in his healing journey. Thank you for all your love and support!
