Serena is not just my friend and coworker—she’s a dedicated paramedic for TVEMS who has spent years serving our community. While training a new hire on the ambulance, Serena was involved in a serious accident that left her with a bulging disc in her lumbar region. Over time, her condition worsened, causing severe pain and eventually neurological dysfunction. Despite her resilience and commitment to her work, Serena’s health continued to decline until she required emergency decompression back surgery. The recovery process has been incredibly difficult, and there is still uncertainty about whether workman's comp will cover her medical bills.

Serena lives on her own and helps support her family, often working overtime just to make ends meet. Now, with her injury and ongoing health challenges, she is unable to work and faces a significant drop in income, as disability does not cover her full salary. The financial stress is overwhelming, especially as she waits to see if workman's comp will step in to help.

Serena puts her whole heart and soul into this organization and into the community, not just through her work as a paramedic and FTO, but also as the lead for the charity group 'Helping Hands.'
