From Survival to Stability: Support M.T.'s Next Step
Donation protected
On Tuesday, May 6th, many of you attended a fundraising luncheon for a nonprofit organization and saw a phenomenal speaker: M.T.
As a survivor of child sex trafficking, she delivered one of the most powerful speeches I've heard in a long time and deservedly received a standing ovation. I'm honored to call her a friend.
Outside of the luncheon, I learned that M.T. is facing eviction from her apartment with no place to go. She is behind on rent, has other debt, and a negative bank account balance. Despite sharing her personal story and inspiring thousands of dollars in donations to the nonprofit, M.T. is close to homelessness.
How she spoke to a large audience on Tuesday with such energy, love, and light, I truly don't know. But those who know what it is to give tirelessly when you yourself need help can appreciate this situation.
A longer-term solution is being devised. In the meantime, it is not for us to have an opinion about how or why the current situation evolved. It simply IS - and something all too common among trafficking survivors.
This is an opportunity to lend a hand because we can.
Getting M.T. to a zero balance isn't the goal, either.
Let's give her enough in the short term to move forward without overwhelming stress.
I have no doubt that together we will help M.T. If there are others who should also see this, please feel free to pass the link along.
