Lend a Hand to Brian's Recovery

Hello Friends,

On March 15th at 8:20 a.m., Brian was involved in a hit-and-run accident while on his motorcycle. Brian was traveling northbound on the 710 south of Artesia Blvd in Long Beach when a car hit him while he was in the fast lane. Brian laid the bike down, and another car hit the bike (it's possibly totaled). This was Brian's only means of transportation.

Brian was transported to Long Beach Memorial Trauma Center ICU. Brian’s head and brain are in great shape. Currently, he has been placed in a medically induced coma. This is to help manage his pain and allow for lung support. He has a total of 10 broken ribs that punctured his lungs, causing blood to gather in each lung. This means his chest is not stable. To protect Brian’s airway and give his lungs a chance to begin healing, he is intubated (breathing tube directly into his airway and on a ventilator). He is temporarily unable to speak or eat. Brian also has two large tubes inserted into his chest on each side to drain blood and allow the lungs to reinflate. Any movement, cough, or deep breaths generate much discomfort. Brian also has some road rash on his legs and feet.

Brian could be off work 6 months to a year because of this accident. Brian does have medical insurance. However, I spoke to his HR director at work and their plan only pays for 80%. Brian is going to have an abundant amount of co-pays, physical therapy, (possibly) home health care, medications, and any other support doctors may prescribe.

I know Brian would be too stubborn to ask for any help (and he will probably be upset with this). any help at all would be so appreciated.

God bless each and every one of you,
Christine and Saxton Family
