In 2023, we rescued Pepper from the streets after being abandoned by her previous family - we were so excited to give her a loving home and a second chance. After over a year of trying to integrate her with our cats, we knew it was finally time to re-home her when we had truly exhausted all avenues (scent swapping, gates, pheromones, etc.) After months of searching and refusing to take her to a shelter, we finally found her the perfect home as a solo kitty with our friend Alex. We made the drive to Chicago and knew we had picked the perfect person for Pepper to live out her next 15+ years. Unfortunately, Alex’s time was cut short with Pepper when she was diagnosed with FIP in March. Pepper was responsive to treatment for a while, but unfortunately took a turn for the worst and treatment was no longer effective. After thousands of dollars spent, lots of vet visits, and more tears than any of us can count, Pepper crossed the rainbow bridge on Saturday, May 24th. Her time was cut way too short; we are heartbroken and so is Alex. Alex did the greatest thing she could have ever done for any pet by giving her a loving home in her final days and it’s not fair to either of them that their time was cut so short. We are trying to surprise Alex with some funds to alleviate some of the financial burden she experienced on top of the emotional turmoil of the last few months. Anything would be greatly appreciated and Alex doesn’t know we have set this up for her.
