Hi, we are the Burkin's, Lena's foster family. Lena was found as a stray in NYC in the fall of 2022. She was taken to the shelter in heat, bouncy & joyful, but when nobody came to claim her she stopped eating & refused to come out. The shelter was going to euthanize her, we offered to foster her on Martha's Vineyard. Lena's Rescue Group made sure she was spayed, had all her shots & was microchipped. When Lena arrived it was clear she had never lived in a home, she didn't even know how to eat from a bowl. With lots of work, love, good nutrition & training, Lena became ready for adoption. However, in November a man hunting illegally showed up at night, on our back deck & scared Lena. She has been struggling with issues of reactivity since. We started training in January and have gotten to the halfway point, but are hoping people will contribute to help us pay for the rest of her training, so that she can be happy and can eventually be adopted!
