Lena's Top Surgery and Recovery!

For those of you who don't already know, I'm non-binary, which means a lot of things to a lot of different people.

For me, it means that gender never really felt right - leaning into my femme side in high school felt forced, and in college friendships with women I thought I should emulate never lasted long.

But, when I started a new job a few years ago, I introduced myself with they/them pronouns for the first time. A couple of summers ago, I bought my first binder. After that, I started asking people to call me Lena, and for the first time, things were starting to fit.

So, in May 2023, I decided to start pursuing top surgery to move myself to a more comfortable 'center' of the spectrum. After a year waiting for an appointment, I had a consultation with a social worker and rushed to get three letters of support and begin the 6-8 week wait for insurance approval.

Twelve weeks later brings us to now, and I finally have my surgery appointment set for December 3!

Recovery for top surgery takes about four weeks and includes some strict rules about how much I can carry and what else I can do, so I'll be doing a lot of watching TV, reading, GrubHubing and Instacarting, which is where this GoFundMe comes in! I'll still be responsible for a few thousand dollars, and because of the timeline, my time to save for medical costs and prepare for recovery is limited.
