If you know me, then you also know my best buddy, Lemmy. For ten years now, Lemmy has been my sidekick, my little furry shadow and my best friend.
Unfortunately, we need your help.
Lemmy experienced a blood clot on Sunday afternoon. I came home to find him unable to walk and in distress. I took him to the emergency vet right away, and after seeing him and his symptoms, they admitted him immediately. I was told his condition was very critical. It was incredibly shocking.
A few hours later I got a very grim diagnosis, he has a blood clot which had cut off circulation to his legs, causing him to lose the use of them and threatening his life. The cause was assumed to be heart disease and potentially heart failure. This was the worst possible scenario I could have imagined.
The vet told me that there were treatment options, but the prognosis was not good and that they were leaning towards 'humane euthanasia'.
It was completely devastating and overwhelming. I was heartbroken.
After more testing and an overnight stay, heart disease was confirmed, but not heart failure. Surprising everyone, he started to regain some use of his legs, he was moving around and eating and drinking. I returned to visit him Monday morning and talk with the vet again. The prognosis had not improved much, but the improvement in his legs and his overall vitality was encouraging.
The road ahead is still very uncertain, but I'm not ready to say goodbye to my best friend! He deserves to have a fighting chance, so we are continuing treatment.
Which brings us to the crux: We need your help. As most of you already know, vet care is very expensive. At this point, the estimate they've given us is $5000-$7000. It's a lot. Especially right now when life is so expensive for all of us.
I hate to ask for help, but I have to. I have to help my friend and give him the best possible chance I can.
If you can help, please do. Every little bit helps and we will both be eternally grateful.
Thank you
Chris and Lemmy
