My name is Laurel Latham. This is the first GoFundMe I have ever done and it’s for my daughter-in-law Leilani Aktepy.

Leilani has one of the most giving hearts out there and has signed up to be an altruistic liver donor. She has recently been matched with someone in need of a liver transplant to save their life. It’s comes as no surprise to me that Leilani wants to go through with this extremely selfless gift to a total stranger being that she’s always been someone who wants to make an impact on others. She would also love to be an ambassador for this procedure to help educate others that may not know this option exists.

Every year, more than 1,700 people die while waiting for a liver donor. Most of the transplants that do take place are from deceased donors while a living donor has a much greater success rate for the recipient.

Donating requires extensive pre-op, surgery and several days in the hospital plus a 12 week recovery period. Her husband Cameron and children Hendrix and Ember are supporting her decision to donate and make this sacrifice.
