Hi my name is Ashleigh Hartill-law, I’m posting this as most of you are aware, my brother-in-law Leigh Hartill-Law, just 37 years old, suffered a life-threatening accident on Wednesday, 1st October.
Leigh is a beloved husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, and friend to many.
After a CT scan, doctors made the urgent decision to perform immediate surgery following the discovery of a skull fracture and two major bleeds on the brain. During surgery, complications arose, and the family were informed that Leigh’s injuries were more severe than first thought. As a result, part of his skull had to be removed to relieve pressure on his brain, and a drain was inserted to help manage the bleeding.
Leigh was placed in an induced coma on Wednesday night following surgery. By mid-morning Friday, doctors were able to bring him out of the coma. On Saturday, the pressure sensor was removed, and thankfully, doctors were satisfied that the pressure around his brain had eased.
They’re pleased with his physical progress as Leigh is able to move his arms, walk with assistance using a walker, and follow commands (finally!). However, they remain concerned about his confusion and limited speech, which will continue to be closely monitored.
Leigh’s road to recovery will be long and challenging, placing enormous emotional and financial strain on his wife Kasey and their four children: Fletcher (7), Scarlott (6), Marlee (3), and baby Leo (9 months). On top of caring for their young family, Kasey is facing mounting household costs, mortgage payments, daily living expenses, and other bills. Leigh also operated a small business, which can no longer run without him. The financial pressure is immense, and with so much uncertainty around how long Leigh’s recovery will take, planning and coping have become even more challenging.
Our hope with this GoFundMe is to ease some of that financial burden, allowing Kasey to focus on being by Leigh’s side and caring for their children without the added stress of keeping the household running.
While they are surrounded by love and support from family and friends, any contribution, no matter how small, will make a huge difference during what is undoubtedly the hardest time of their lives.
Leigh will face ongoing rehabilitation costs, and there is still so much uncertainty ahead. Please keep Leigh, Kasey, and their beautiful children in your thoughts and prayers.
We know we are part of a wonderful community filled with kind and generous people, and together we can help rally around them when they need it most.
Finally, thank you to everyone who has already reached out. Kasey is deeply grateful for every message, call, and visit. She appreciates all the love and support and will get back to everyone in time x
UPDATE: To all our family and friends who have been thinking of Leigh Hartill Law, sending messages, calling, and holding us in your hearts — thank you doesn’t seem like enough. Your love and support have truly helped his family get through this incredibly tough time, and knowing we have such a strong “army” around us has been a source of strength and comfort.
To everyone who has donated or shared our GoFundMe page: thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Asking for help does not come easily to Leigh or Kasey, but your generosity has been overwhelming, in the very best way. We are so deeply grateful.
We have some positive news to share. The progress Leigh has made in just the past week has been nothing short of incredible. On Tuesday, he knew Kasey's name and that she was his wife. He knew he had four children — and for the first time, he was able to say all their names. He knew where he was and what had happened. He even remembered his birthday and the month. Most importantly, he consistently got his name right, which was amazing to witness.
He is now able to follow all commands without needing visual prompts, and he can feed himself, drink, and use the bathroom independently. He's also up and moving around now with his helmet on.
This transformation has given us hope
that there is light at the end of what has been a very long and difficult tunnel. And for us, that is a win. Leigh is strong, he is determined, and we are so proud of him.
On Tuesday, Leigh was moved to the Neuro ward. While we know so many of you want to visit ,and his memory and speech are improving every day ,we kindly ask for your understanding. Right now, we are limiting visits to close family only. Each day is different, and we never know what we might be walking into in the morning. In time, he will love to see you all, but for now, we are taking things slowly and gently.
From our entire family — thank you. Your unwavering support, kindness, and generosity have brought us comfort beyond words. It means the world to Leigh, Kase, the kids, and all of us.
I’ll continue to update you on his progress as best I can. Please keep Leigh in your thoughts and prayers as he continues on his road to recovery
