Help Leigh Kminek fight breast cancer!
In early February, Leigh went in for a biopsy to test a lump she had recently found, thinking it was a cyst. The next day, she received a call from her doctor with the news that she had breast cancer and that it had spread to her lymph nodes. Leigh has been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, which is a rare and extremely aggressive (stage 2b, grade 3) form of cancer that is very fast spreading (an 89% rate which is high). She is scheduled to meet with an oncologist, for an MRI, and for genetic testing all this week - just a few days after learning her diagnosis. She is expecting chemo now and radiation later then surgery, likely a double mastectomy and possibly ovary removal if genetic testing is positive. Leigh and her wonderful husband Chris are shocked and still trying to wrap their minds around what is happening and what needs to happen. Leigh and Chris's daughters, Liliana and Maisie, reacted differently to the diagnosis - Maisie was mostly focused on the idea that Leigh would likely be bald soon! (Kids are the best.) Leigh is one of the strongest, most pragmatic, most brilliant, and most amazing people I know. She is a generous friend, a fantastic wife, and an awesome mother and so much more.
When Leigh heard her diagnosis, her response was, "Okay. So what's the plan?" She is ready to fight. And so are we. We wanted to start this page to help take the financial pressure off of her upcoming medical costs. Leigh needs to focus on staying positive and fighting this cancer, not on the bills that are on the way for her treatment. Now is not the time for added stress for Leigh. By contributing here, you can help alleviate some stress and support Leigh as she begins treatment. She and Chris will be facing time off work plus the unexpected added cost of upcoming treatments - this is one way we can help her fight.
