Late last night I got a text from my bestie Leighann that she was in the hospital with a broken clavicle, shattered ankle and staples in her head.
This adventure loving chingona rented an electric bike and was riding off into the sunset when some nasty railroad tracks in front of the Boardwalk decided to take her down. Stupid tracks.
I went to visit her last night at Domenican while she was awaiting transfer to Kaiser San Jose for surgery.
My good dudes-
Leighann is in ok spirits. If you know her, you already know she is always in radical gratitude, nothing has changed there. She’s already posted a thank you to the local Santa Cruz FB page to the strangers who stayed with her until the ambulance came.
She’s completely kind to the doctor and nurse despite having waited in the emergency room hallway for hours and hours WITHOUT PAIN MEDS because yes, she’s a saint.
Ok, she’s not a saint. She’s fallible. Sometimes she yells at her cats, can confirm. She drinks too many Red Bulls.
She might be a hoarder of amazing religious oddities (ok, me too.)
But she’s also the best friend to me, an amazing therapist to her clients, an excellent cat dad and a woman in her fifties whose steady and quiet joie de vivre is always humming.
She was riding her bike to look at the sunset.
How fucking pure of heart is this???
So-
The ask.
I’m asking for her because she never would for herself.
She’s going to need a few months of recovery. She can’t work like this, it’s obvious.
She said she was worried about that first week of not being paid before disability kicks in.
I just don’t want her to worry about a damn thing except getting better.
Can you help me do that?
I’m asking for 5500 because that seems to be about enough to, coupled with a disability check, to get her through this rough time and get her mind off financial concerns.
