It started out as fatigue and the inability to shake an infection in his foot. Doctor visit after doctor visit did not seem to solve the problems.
Then the news broke. ......
Mike is in the fight of his life. The diagnosis was Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone....survivable only if the treatments work.
Mike has already gone through multiple rounds of chemotherapy. The treatments cause nausea, mouth sores and even greater fatigue. More chemo rounds are coming up. If the oncologists determine that the chemotherapy is not enough, the next step will be a stem cell transplant. His brother and sisters are already being tested for a possible match.
Any fighter will tell you that the cost of preparation is high, both emotionally and physically. Mike can handle that. The challenge comes with financially managing the fight.
