Hi Friends,
Aleks' trusty prosthetic has finally bit the dust. She needs a new leg but co-pays for durable medical equipment are through the roof!
Please help Aleks maintain her independance and get around safely as she navigates the perils of busy NYC sidewalks, and subway system.
Fun Facts: In America a lower extremity prosthesis typically costs between 5,000 and 50,000 depending on the complexity of the case, but most insurance plans have a cap on coverage in the range of $2,500 to $4,000 along with high deductibles. This can leave thousands of dollars for families to pay out of pocket. Many go into debt, put up with pain and infection, or worse- end up in a wheelchair when they could easily walk with the right medical care.
We are hoping to raise some funds to get the initial proceedures done and start the process. Though this certainly will not cover everything it would be an extremely welcome leg-up.
