Why, exactly are ferrets illegal in California?

We're not supposed to talk about it. Actually our legislators won't talk about it. Because truthfully the reasons don't make any sense.

You see, in California domestic ferrets are classified as wild animals. Wild?! That doesn't make sense.

When people are told by the Fish and Game Commission or any legislator who will talk that domestic ferrets are wild animals and will reek havoc in the environment, the response is usually laughter in the audience.

The real reason ferrets can't get a hearing in California is opposition from very powerful interest groups. The Sierra Club and PETA.

And they won't talk about it
For them to discuss the carbon foot print of ferrets or to mention they oppose pet ownership in general is not something the general public is going to support.

Better to keep tight lipped and avoid the subject.

But that doesn't work for California ferret lovers. We want our issue raised and talked about.

We hope this billboard campaign will generate interest and enthusiasm to build support to legalize ferrets in California. The only other state besides Hawaii to outlaw a domestic animal!
