This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write. Several people I care about are currently facing urgent immigration legal challenges here in Minneapolis.

One friend has an upcoming court hearing at the Whipple building, and after everything they’ve already survived to reach safety, I am honestly scared. They are facing the threat of being placed in detention, despite having committed no crime. Threatened of being sent to a country they have no connection to.. or worse, returned to a place they are still afraid to go. I have seen the physical scars left behind from the dangerous life they fled. What should be a chance to move forward and find stability has instead become another moment filled with fear. No one should have to face a process this high-stakes alone, and certainly not without legal representation.

Right now, the most immediate need is securing an experienced immigration attorney. Legal support can make an enormous difference in whether someone is able to remain safely in their community, and understanding due process.

The majority of these funds will go directly toward urgently securing an experienced immigration attorney for an upcoming court date. Later on down the road their family member will face a similar day in court. If our goal is surpassed, any additional donations will go to help cover essentials like groceries, rent and basic survival needs for those impacted in the community.

It is incredibly painful to see people in our community living under this kind of threat. I’m asking for your help to bring some safety, stability, and hope to those who need it most. Any contribution, big or small, helps more than you know
