Legal help - Justice for Aurora

My name is Therese Lindstrom and I am seeking financial help and support for legal help in fighting for the custody of my daughter. We are survivors of domestic violence.

In 2015, I was able to flee with my daughter from my abusive ex-husband and shortly after I gained sole legal custody of my daughter in US Supreme Court. We relocated to Sweden.

Her father appealed the decision in Swedish Court in 2022 and it has become a very complex custody matter, involving the legal jurisdiction of Sweden where he has no record of domestic violence. The case has been on going for 18 months and the final trial is still ahead.

My daughter does not want to move and live with him in the USA, although the Court in Sweden has granted him permission to do so, citing I have held back contact with her father, which is not true. His record of abuse seem to have no bearing on the Swedish Court and they have not recognised the US Supreme Court Decision

This is a devastating situation, where Aurora has been separated from her only caregiver as I have been a sole parent for nine years. She is 12 years old and has been separated from school, friends, family and her beloved cat due to this complicated matter.

My family and I have reached a point where we have spent 25 000 thousand dollars on this fight and have run out of all financial means and possibilities to fund this fight.

The final trial will take place in two months, and to hire my attorney back I need to ask the community for immediate funds for the retainer.

I am reaching out to friends, family and community for help in continuing this fight and find justice for my daughter, and bring her back home and placed in her fathers care whom the US Supreme Court has been deemed unfit as a parent due to domestic violence, homelessness and financially unfit to care for himself nor the child.

If I can not raise the legal funds, she will be placed in permanent care of her father, whom we escaped from nine years ago.

She will be forced to leave her home country and everything she knows, her friends, her family and her whole life. We will most likely never see her again.

The conversion rate for this fundraiser is 80 000 kronor, which equals 8 000 dollars.

Background-

The domestic violence started already during my pregnancy in 2011 and for many years I endured physical, psychological, emotional, financial abuse and violence by my ex-husband.

Today, I am suffering with PTSD due to the stress and trauma of the abuse and violence against me during the four years of our marriage.

In 2014 my husband was arrested and I got an Orders of protection against him. In 2016 I got legal and residential custody of my daughter by the US Supreme Court.

Now...many years later, my ex-husband is once again starting a Court battle all over again against me, over our daughter. This time in Sweden where we have been living under a legally binding agreement by the US Court but Swedish Court and judicial system has refused to recognize this and asked that she be extradited to her father.

Despite the HAAG convention should recognise the law in Sweden, they have not...

The Swedish Court does not recognize the history of abuse either since it happened in another country.

I am now asking for help with this fundraiser asking for financial support to pay the legal fees to continue the legal fight for my daughter, for her right to live a life and childhood free from abuse by her father.

The funds will be used directly towards legal fees for an assigned attorney to prepare and execute a very complicated two day trial. I can not carry justice for my daughter in conducting the trial solely on my own and we have depleted all resources of Legal Aid and personal funds.
