Hi, my name is Tom Stezzi. My family is reaching out to seek your support for a critical cause that directly impacts the health and well-being of our community.
In May of 2023, the Lexington Massachusetts Planning Board approved a 1.0 megawatt ground-mounted solar project. Its completion would clear approximately 1000 mature trees close to the Cambridge (MA) Reservoir, a vital source of drinking water for Cambridge residents, as well as displace countless wildlife. Mass Audubon recently published an article analyzing growing solar, concluding clear cutting trees is not necessary to meet the state's energy goals.
The project directly abuts a residential neighborhood that I am a member of, and we have several concerns about the health and safety impacts of the project as currently approved. Additional concerns are that all construction, maintenance, and emergency response will be through the developer’s residential property in the neighborhood. No fire protection is included in the design and the placement of high-voltage wiring in this residential area is an unnecessary threat to the health of families in the neighborhood. While we recognize and support the importance of sustainable energy, the potential environmental, safety, and welfare risks associated with the size, difficult access, and location of this particular project are of great concern.
To appeal the planning board's approval we have retained legal representation. We hope to reach a compromise that balances protecting the existing nature, promoting green energy initiatives, and allowing for the safety and well-being of the community as soon as possible. Your contribution towards legal fees, no matter the size, would be greatly appreciated and make a big difference.
Please note: Your generosity in this manner would not yield a tax deduction, as we have not secured qualification as a tax-exempt organization. It would be considered a gift. Thank you so much for your support, and sharing this GoFundMe with friends and family would be much appreciated!
