Hello, my name is Natalie Brooks. While I & other family members of this close knit family have been helping Gregory Reed through his incarceration with letters of support, visits and a provision to live somewhat comfortably, the State Appellate Defender has won an appeal for him. Gregory's time has come and he has to go before the same judge who sentenced him at a bench trial and explain why his paid counsel was ineffective to begin with. Counsel doesn't come without a price and Gregory's family this knows all too well.
I have created a list of things that happened, and while our judicial system is flawed, they have set another precedent in this case.
THE TRUTH IS:
NO ONE DIED in a shootout on 9/1/2011.
More than one shooter was involved.
Counsel representing Gregory fell asleep in Court
An innocent bystander was hit by a bullet
AND WAS NOT CRITICALLY INJURED
Again, more than one shooter was involved
and please refer back to the above truths.
Gregory Reed deemed his paid attorney ineffective.
Gregory was given 50 YEARS to make an example of him.
The State Appellate Defender fought hard & WON to get Gregory Reed an appeal.
The facts are the State Appellate Defender no longer represents Mr. Reed & wasn’t able to properly convey his court date. I personally just found about Gregory’s new court date for January 15th on yesterday, 1/11/19.
Gregory has to go solo before the original sentencing judge & address why counsel was ineffective. While we've found new Counsel to step in and continue this fight for a Krankle hearing,
The Truth is: Mr. Reed needs $5,000 for legal fees to finish this fight.
Will you help me to help Gregory Reed? The Appellate Court has given this case a chance to go back to the trial level. This is great news which essentially means either:
the verdict was unreasonable or couldn't be supported by the evidence; the judge made an error of law; or.
there was a miscarriage of justice on any grounds (basis).
