The money raised will be used to help pay for a lawyer to represent the best interests of the Pittsgrove residents and the environment. This lawyer will help the residents and show our government officials that we are serious, organized, and ready to fight for what is right. The proposed trash transfer station/ material recovery facility will directly impact the quality of life that we have enjoyed for generations. Our legal team will help us create an organized and coherent argument to oppose the proposed facility. Any monies left over will be donated to the various environmental organizations that advocate to protect wild life and open space. Thank you for your donation.

SAVE PITTSGROVE was created as a platform to assist Pittsgrove residents with information about any pending developments that disregard the careful planning within our township. Residents need to work together in order to KEEP PITTSGROVE the rural haven in which we have come to love and call our home.
Each township has a Master Plan. This Master Plan is exactly that. A PLAN. This plan should contain areas that are designated for SMART GROWTH. For example: Residential Areas, Industrial Areas, Neighborhood Business, Agricultural Areas. etc. Ordinances within these designated zones are also written to enforce this plan for SMART DEVELOPMENT.
A private Cumberland County (Vineland N.J.) company wants to build a transfer station / material recovery facility (TS/MRF) at the entrance of Pittsgrove and Salem County. The proposed industrial facility will be on approximately 20 acres of land. Approximately 10+/- acres is zoned RESIDENTIAL while the remainder is zoned for commercial highway business. The proposed facility will be right next to 160+/- contiguous acres of PRESERVED forest that falls within the Maurice River watershed and is less than 500 ft from DEP designated wetlands.
This private Vineland company is using a loophole in the NJDEP solid waste county regulations to bypass Pittsgrove Township's planning board and environmental advisory committee . The private Vineland company is trying to cloak itself as a utility service and claims they are going to provide Pittsgrove residents with trash service at a reduced rate. 68% of Pittsgrove residents voted NO to this exact service in the 2019 general election.
The application that has been submitted to the Salem County Improvement Authority estimates over 300 trash trucks a day coming to this facility. The facility will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. All trucks that use this facility will be driving on Salem County roads and using our small town intersections.

This is an egregious placement for this type of industrial facility. It should be located in an industrial area, adjacent to an existing landfill. If this private company were true recyclers, they would recycle an existing industrial site or utilize existing grant money and low interest loans to clean up an industrial brownfields site instead of tearing down virgin biodiverse forest. This vernal pool forest, has been a long time, sensitive habitat for a wide range of species. For example; Southern (Cope’s) Gray Treefrog (Hyla chrysoscelis), eastern box turtles, red fox, owls, hawks, flying squirrels, salamanders, corn and other snakes and so much more. Please help us save this sensitive ecosystem.

"The Maurice River watershed contains habitat for numerous threatened and endangered plant, animal, and bird species. The river supports New Jersey’s largest stand of wild rice, and is home to more than half of the non-marine mammal animal species that the state has recognized as endangered.
