Support for Ongoing Legal Defense and Essential Living Needs
My dear friends,
My name is Baiting Jiang. I am the plaintiff in a federal civil action pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California arising from news coverage published by NBCUniversal Media, LLC during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I did not seek media attention, public exposure, or involvement in any public controversy. At all relevant times prior to the publication of the news reports at issue, I was a private individual renting a room in San Mateo, California.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, NBCUniversal Media, LLC published and broadcast news reports concerning me across multiple platforms. I allege that those reports contained numerous serious factual inaccuracies and material omissions. As a result of that reporting, I suffered substantial reputational harm, emotional distress, and professional damage. In my court filings, I have identified and documented more than 122 alleged factual errors and misrepresentations.
Following the publication of those reports, I was involuntarily thrust into public attention. My actions since that time have been limited to responding to the harm caused and defending my legal rights through the judicial process.
Over nearly five years, I have been engaged in federal litigation, much of it without legal representation. After I successfully appealed, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit remanded my case twice—once in 2023 and again in 2025. The case is now pending before the district court following those remand orders.
The financial, emotional, and physical toll of this litigation has been overwhelming. At the same time, my parents—both elderly—are facing serious health challenges.
I am requesting assistance solely out of necessity. This fundraiser is intended to help cover:
• Basic living expenses
• Litigation-related costs (e.g. limited legal consultation fees, filing fees, copies, and necessary research materials)
• Medical and family caregiving needs
I am not seeking publicity, influence, or public debate. I am not attempting to shape public opinion or advance any public cause. I am simply trying to survive the consequences of events beyond my control and to continue defending myself through lawful channels.
Certain evidence relevant to my claims—including archived versions of news content—has been preserved by independent third parties, including the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine and Page Vault, Inc. These materials are referenced in my court filings and are provided solely for evidentiary and documentation purposes.
I allege that, after publishing the news reports at issue and during the pendency of the litigation, Defendant NBCUniversal Media, LLC removed, edited, or destroyed certain content concerning me. As reflected in the attached materials, this conduct appears intended to impede judicial review and avoid legal accountability. These issues are currently before the Court.
Please see Attachment Three, pages 15–179 (Internet Archive evidence) and pages 187–501 (Page Vault evidence), which document the altered or removed news content.
I am grateful for any support, whether through a small donation or by quietly sharing this page. Your assistance allows me to meet essential needs while continuing to seek resolution through the courts.
Thank you for taking the time to read this statement.
Respectfully,
Baiting Jiang
