Amy needs our help! Many of you know my sister as a spunky, funny, hard-working, screen printing extraordinaire who on top of all of that is also an amazing mom to her 10 year old son, Spencer.
Recently she has been going through a personal struggle to free herself from a 6 year long unhealthy relationship that ended about a year and a half ago. She is incredibly resilient and has worked very hard the last year healing from this while still being sensitive to her son's needs and well-being.
A couple days before Christmas of this year Amy (and Spencer's dad, Nathan) were each served papers by her ex-boyfriend seeking legal rights to Spencer. Amy and Nathan have had a parenting plan in place for Spencer for the last 9 years that meets all of their needs.
They get along, live near by to eachother and Spencer's school. Our families are still close and even see eachother on vacations. From my perspective, over-all as co-parents and Spencer's care goes, they do a great job!
About 4 months ago, in what felt highly innapropriate to Amy, her ex-boyfriend started asking for and more time with Spencer than she was already allowing (and more than Spencer wanted)... even pushing her to sign a legal agreement essentially giving him guaranteed access to them both for the next 8 years! When my sister refused, he threatened her multiple times with financial harm. This lawsuit is nothing more than an attempt to use the courts to re-abuse and harrass her and she is fighting back! Unfortunatley as a self-employed single-mom who has a mortgage to pay, she does not have the $3,000 needed to secure her lawyer. She will be seeking in court to have her legal fees reimbursed by her ex-boyfriend and in such case is happy to repay any single donation over $200. In the event that her legal fees are awarded by the courts to be paid by him, Amy would like to donate anything extra to Womenspace. Thank you all for taking the time to read this, to reach out and to support Amy (& Spencer).
